*SSA TIME SENSITIVE* Starr Basin ride and closure information

Hi everyone,

Applications for the Telkwa winter lottery system will be open from Oct 20- Nov 20. The attached documents describe how to apply for a permit. Please read them carefully for instructions on how to apply, prior to responding with questions. You can email your fillable application form (attached) to with subject line “Winter 2020-2021 Telkwa Lottery application (insert applicants name)”.  Hard copies of applications will also be available at the FrontCounterBC Office in Smithers. The hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 10:00-12:00, 1:00-3:00. Applicants will not be accepted after November 20. You can direct questions to myself or Mark Wong ( .

If your name is randomly selected and you do not have any outstanding fines for violations under the Wildlife Act, you will be issued Part 1 of the permit. Even if you are successfully chosen to receive a permit, this does not guarantee you will be able to access the Telkwa Mountains as caribou may be in the area. Based on feedback from last year we have added the option to include a secondary permit holder to each permit in the event the primary permit holder gets sick or injured. We will be asking for your secondary permit holder name and information once results are released (December 1). Please note: Individuals can only be secondary permit holders for no more than two primary permit holders. There is also an online web portal where permit holders can view up to date caribou locations. Web portal login information will be forward to successful applicants.

Please be mindful of the fact that future opportunity and implementation of the lottery system may be affected by compliance throughout the 2020-2021 season. Do your part, abide by the rules, and follow the permit conditions. Otherwise you are putting the permitting system at risk.
