Smithers Snowmobile Association

October 2020 Newsletter

We have decided not to have a raffle this year. One issue we had was availability of units to raffle. Due to high demand of units and low availability, we would have had to buy a much more expensive machine this year. We were also worried about the social distancing rules and the unwillingness of customers coming to our desk to purchase tickets. We also felt like we were going ot have a lack of ticket sellers this year. This decision wasn't taken lightly but unfotunately we thought this was the best option for this year.

Fee Collector

Lizette will not be collecting fees for us this year so that leaves us with no official collector. Ideally we would like to have 3 consistent people, one for each major parking area. We will put an ad in the paper, offering $20/hr and that a typical day is 4 hours. If we have any members that would like to offer their time that would be really great.

Our groomer directors looked at some groomers over the summer as we got a $15,000 grant from Wetzwinka for one. They did find and purchase a 2008 Piston Bully 400 for approximately $74,000. We planon getting some ne signs for the groomers thnaking Wetzwinka and our other major sponsors. Our current ones are looking weathered. We were almost able to pay for the machine outright but ended up needing asmall line of credit from the bank.

It looks like the SSA will have to maintain the Telkwa FSR this year so that will increase our costs. We will also be trying to maintain the Pine Creek parking lot for as long as we can. Then will call in Dawson Road Maintenance to open it up for us if the snow gets too deep.
