Murray Abbott

Unfortunately the SSA has lost a long time member in Murray Abbott. Murray passed away on November 1st after a long battle with cancer. He and his wife Elsa were very active members of the SSA, among other local groups, and will be sorely missed. The SSA has sent their condolences to the family and are working on a way to honour both Murray and Elsa.

New Groomer

During the summer the Board of Directors voted to purchase a new groomer. After a thorough search a short list was made. Last month the BoD agreed on a specific groomer, another vote was cast and it was passed. A deposit of roughly $9000 has been paid and the delivery date is estimated to be early December. Can't wait to get the new machine!

As for the other two groomers. The yellow one needs work on its cylinders, a tire and some other items. We will try to get it to Babine Truck soon and will try to get the Blue one to Hy-Tech. Currently they are sitting at Brandt Tractor.

Raffle

The atv raffle is in full swing. Last year the raffle was just starting at this time, but this year 25% of tickets have already been sold! Tickets are being sold at local snowmobile dealers throughout the week and in front of Canadian Tire and the Liquor store on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Currently only a few people have been selling tickets at these locations, we could use some more volunteers please!

VRAM

There will be a VRAM meeting on Tuesday November 24th. The meeting will primarily be about the Caribou and motorized vehicles in the Starr area. There are a lot of influential forces trying to keep motorized vehicles out of this very large parcel of land. This is a very important battle for local snowmobilers and there will be SSA representatives attending the meeting. This battle is a great example of how the SSA isn't just about grooming trails but also to try to help keep recreational areas open.

Avalanche Course

There will be an avalanche AST1 course being held in December. If you don't have your ticket but like to enjoy the backcountry we suggest you think about signing up. Check out the company's website at www.Hylandbackcountry.ca. The AST1 course will be held on December 12 and 13th. There is also an introductory course the evening of December 9th.
