February 2016 Newsletter

The Dome shelter is in good shape. Unfortunately the trail up is still rough. Hopefully someone is able to find the time to volunteer to smooth it out. There has been a complaint about the outhouse door in the parking lot. Wade and Jason have volunteered to go check it out. Remember that everyone is welcome to mend things, just let us know what you did and how long it took.

The Harld Price shelter is in good shape as is the trail.

The Mic has a damaged sign at the trail head that needs to be repaired. No news on its shelters.

The Onion trail was done a couple of weeks ago, no news on the shelters.

The groomer operaters are very happy with the new red groomer. It's been working well and it's cheaper on fuel than the old one.

The Blue groomer has an issue with the winch, it will reel in but not out. That will be loked at in the near future.

The membership drive is going well. As of the meeting we had 179 members. And there were some still at the dealers that hasn't been counted yet. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. Remember, if you know someone who isn't a member, let them know that the SSA is powered by membership.

Burnie Shae Access

Our legal weekend up Burnie Shae is set for April 9-10th! Start planning it now and have a lot of fun up there.

The Future

As you may know, the SSA is in a partnership agreement with the Rec, Sites, and Trails portion of the governement. Well they would like us to come up with an operation plan for the future. So now is a great time for some input! What should we plan to do in the future?

One of the Onion shelters is getting worn down, should we replace it?

Should we purchase another newer groomer to replace the Blue one?

Should we sell the Yellow groomer or keep it for parts? Where would it sit if we parted it out?

Expand the Microwave parking lot? Install an outhouse at 19km?

Do some major work on the Pine Creek trail or relocate it? Would we have to bring a groomer over there?

A lot of garbage has been found this year at the parking lots and the beginning of trails, should we do a litter pickup in spring?

Please email us any and all ideas of what we can or should do in the future. snowmobilesmithers@gmail.com
