Smithers Club Joins “Buck-A-Day” Program in Support of Public Avalanche Safety

May 14, 2013, Revelstoke, BC: The Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) is pleased to announce that the Smithers Snowmobile Association (SSA) has joined the “Buck-A-Day” program, which sees snowmobile clubs donate $1 from every trail fee to the CAC. At the end of the 2012 – 13 season, the SSA presented a cheque for $1507.00 to the CAC.

Ron Fowler, President of SSA, said joining the program is the right thing to do. “We all have a responsibility to support public avalanche safety and our club is proud to participate,” he explained. “We also give a discount to members who have taken an Avalanche Skills Training course. We want to do everything we can to ensure we’re enjoying our beautiful mountains responsibly.”

“We are extremely appreciative of the support we receive from the snowmobiling community and very grateful that SSA is now on board,” said Karl Klassen, acting Executive Director of the CAC. “The money raised through the Buck-A-Day program supports the CAC’s public avalanche warning service and helps us to develop and deliver snowmobile-specific programs. Together we are making a tremendous difference.”

The Buck-A-Day program is an initiative of the Association of BC Snowmobile Clubs and was established in the winter of 2011 – 12. Since it's inception, the program has directed almost $145,000 to the CAC.
