This years AAD was well attended by many winter recreation users. The event was co-sponsored by the Smithers Snowmobile Association, (SSA) and the Bulkley Backcountry Ski Society, (BBSS). Sean Fraser from Hyland Backcountry Safety made a very informative presentation explaining how this years snowpack has been affected by our unusual weather events, and what to be aware of for the rest of the season. Scott Hicks, CARDA handler from Terrace, showed photos and videos geared towards the snowmobiler about the riding areas around Terrace. Ben Heemskerk, active member of the Canadian Avalanche Association, explained and demonstrated the various "tools" ie; forecasts, apps, ATES mapping, etc, that are available on Avalanche Canada's website. Lots of good discussion, questions, comments, prizes and freebies handed out. Thanks to Brad, Curtis and Ron from the SSA, Matt, Erin and Catie from the BBSS, the Hudson Bay Lodge for continuing to be a great corporate citizen by providing the venue facilities, and everyone else that made this event a success.
