About SSA

About SSA

Here in Smithers we are surrounded by majestic mountains, which offer snowmobilers of all ages and skill level, a myriad of exciting recreational opportunities.

Our more popular riding areas include The Big Onion, 20 km north of Smithers in Babine Mountain Provincial Park;  The Dome, 25 km north of Smithers;  and The Microwave, which is 19 km southeast of Telkwa.

The SSA has a Partnership Agreement with the Province of BC, Recreation Sites & Trails Branch and BC Parks to maintain seven emergency shelters, and groom approximately 100 km of trails in the immediate area.

Our annual snowfall averages 7.5 ft. and our average winter temperatures range from -5.2° C and – 12° C. Our riding seasons stretches from November through to May.

Membership or Day Passes are required to access our riding areas.

Vision

The SSA has been a registered non-profit organization for over 40 years, and has historically generated funds solely through community fund raising efforts and donations from our sponsors and local businesses.
